2011 World Series:Texas Rangers vs. St. Louis CardinalsOctober 18, 2010 by Marc Jerbs

On Wednesday, the NL champion St. Louis Cardinals hosts the AL champion Texas Rangers in Game 1 of the 2011 World Series at Busch Stadium. The first pitch is set at 8:05PM ET.

The Texas Rangers are back again for the second consecutive in this year's World Series. In 2010, the Rangers' vaunted offense was shutdown by the Giants' superb pitching which led to Giants to clinch the World Series.

On their second consecutive trip to the World Series, the Rangers now know what to expect in Game 1. They have been in this situation before and now have the experience and inspiration to turn their last year's demise into a running point and eventually win the World Series.

The St. Louis Cardinals' amazing wild card run ended by holding the NL trophy after winning the NL Championship series against the Milwaukee Brewers. Their next mission is to get the World Series trophy against the Rangers. The Cards have the National League's best offense, which features a deep and talented lineup.

To win in the World Series, it has to start with superb pitching. This has been the effective formula of past World Series champions. For Game 1, the Rangers will hand the ball to CJ Wilson while the Cardinals will send Chris Carpenter to the mound.

The sportsbook handicappers have installed the Texas Rangers as the favorite to beat the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 1. The Cardinals do have the home field advantage and thrived with an underdog tag during the National League's playoff season.
